Do You Need Grounds for Dissolution?
To legally end a Civil Partnership, you must obtain a Dissolution Order. Thanks to the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020 (DDSA 2020), you no longer need to prove specific grounds like adultery or unreasonable behavior. A simple statement confirming that the relationship has irretrievably broken down is enough.

What If My Partner Doesn’t Agree?
If your partner doesn’t want to end the Civil Partnership, you can still apply for dissolution as an individual. This is called a sole application. After filing the initial D8 form, you can request a Conditional Order. If the courts agree, they’ll issue the Conditional Order, after which you can apply for a Final Order (within 12 months) to officially dissolve the partnership.
