Frequently asked questions

Civil Partnerships are open to both same-sex and heterosexual couples who want an alternative to marriage.

To dissolve a Civil Partnership, you’ll need to:

  1. Submit a D8 application form to the court.
  2. Wait 20 weeks, then apply for a Conditional Order (stating there’s no reason to deny dissolution).
  3. Apply for a Final Order within 12 months to officially end the partnership.

Under the DDSA 2020, no specific evidence is required. A statement confirming the relationship has irretrievably broken down is enough to apply for a no-fault dissolution.
