Divorce Financial Settlement Solicitors
Finding financial security after divorce
Our experienced divorce solicitors will help you navigate a fair and legally binding financial settlement.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to get a financial settlement?
This will depend on your personal circumstances. Couples that can reach an agreement without mediation or court can expect to finalise their settlement within three to six months. Settlements that end after a series of court hearings can take as long as 18 months or more.
What assets cannot be split in a divorce in the UK?
Assets acquired after separation are not included within a divorce settlement, and neither are assets from an external source. This could include inheritance or gifts, and they need to have been kept separate from the matrimonial finances.
Is my wife entitled to half my savings if we divorce?
There is no automatic entitlement for either spouse when going through a divorce. If not agreed beforehand, the court will consider various factors to determine how finances are most fairly split. Once decided, this will become legally binding.
